So it's not quite tomato season, and the tomatoes at the grocery store aren't very exciting. But I was dying to reincorporate tomatoes after three weeks on the elimination diet without them, so I decided to use Muir Glen's Organic Canned Tomatoes and take a stab at making real marinara, following Giada De Laurentis' Marinara Recipe.
I modified it by adding a big bunch of basil that I had leftover, and let it sit over low heat for about an hour longer than the recipe called for.
The taste was fantastic, but the texture wasn't my favorite; I prefer smoother tomato sauce. The one thing I'd really like to invest in is a food mill. They're not that expensive, and having one last night would have made my sauce perfectly smooth.
I'm so happy to have tomatoes back in my life. It felt good to follow the diet so carefully (well...up until day 19), but it felt way better to be reunited with one of my favorite foods last night.

Your sauce looks delicious! I wonder if you could have used an immersion blender to make it smoother. They're very inexpensive, and I use mine all the time for making creamy soups.
