Dessert: Non-Dairy, Non-Soy Coconut Ice Cream

I'll be honest; I've been hating the no-dessert feature of the elimination diet. No cookies, no brownies, no cake, no ice cream...it's great for my weight and my skin, but the rest of me doesn't like it very much.

The problem is that I've never been one of those people who can just have some fruit for dessert and feel satisfied. And don't get me started on fruit salad--I don't trust it unless I've made it myself or seen it made in the last two hours. Something about that mushy, too-sweet trash they serve in salad bars just makes my skin crawl.

I'd heard from my colleague who's doing the elimination diet with me that there wasn't any kind of no-soy, no-dairy "ice cream" available, and so I didn't bother to look for one. But after about two weeks of no dessert, I found myself wandering the freezer aisle, searching desperately for something I could eat other than a giant bag of frozen blueberries.

And then I found it.

Turtle Mountain's Purely Decadent Non-Dairy Frozen Dessert, in Vanilla Bean and Passionate Mango flavors. It's dairy-free, soy-free, and sugar-free...as far as I know, it doesn't violate any part of the elimination diet (and if it does, I don't want to know). It tastes creamy and fantastic (although I have to admit that the vanilla bean really just tastes like coconut), and it is excellent with a sliced champagne mango.

Sure, it still isn't great for me, but a little dessert is a good thing, especially when I've gone without bacon, pasta, and wine for this *&$%#^% diet.

  1. That is good stuff! There are several dairy-free, soy-free ice creams out now though. Including Coconut Bliss and a few other brands (some coconut based, some nut based). None of them are cheap, but all that I have tried thus far are excellent!
