Treats to Try: Eat Beets and Don't Drink Coke

I'm not really capable of spending the time to figure out a way to string these two items together in a more convincing way, so I'm presenting them as the latest episode of Treats to Try (a.k.a. I want to tell you about these things, but my brain isn't working well enough to write individual posts for each).

1) Beets. Eat them.

They're the maroon things in this picture, not the orange things. Beets are so good for you, and they taste so good. Not the canned, yucky ones, but the real, fresh, amazing ones that taste like the earth. Seriously. I know how pretentious that just sounded, but they do!

2) Coca-cola: sexy brand, yucky product.

Check out this article (courtesy of Pinyadda) that details what happens to your body within an hour of drinking a Coke. Gross. Stop drinking it.

People in the South drink SO much soda. That's not to suggest that none of the rest of America drinks it, but I haven't seen so many people down multiple Cokes in one day since college, and at least those had rum in them. My colleagues pop open Cokes and Diet Cokes first thing in the morning, and keep a constant flow of that nasty cola going to their stomachs all day long. Blech. Their insides are probably so dried out they're creaking. And who wants creaky insides?

Try a grapefruit cooler, instead. They're way healthier, twice as refreshing, and they're the beverage of choice of yours truly.

That's all for now!
